This is a Reflection letter of The (Im)posture — the newsletter from Julien Posture. If you like it and want more like it in your inbox, consider subscribing.
Human lives are punctuated by repetitive patterns, and like the cycle of the seasons, the wheel of illustration assignments comes and goes with its share of recurrent, seemingly innocent, yet heartbreaking, yet funny emails from clients. In the spirit of this newsletter, critical but lighthearted, bitter but mostly sweet - but also maybe in the spirit of late stage capitalism that turns systemic failures into a demeaning game - I hereby introduce you to...
The Illustrator’s heartbreak BINGO grid !
The goal is simple, you can get a HD pdf in the link at the end of this post (B&W or colour), print it, and pin it above your computer. When the time comes (because it will), simply cross out the message that has been sent to you. If you have a full line, or God forbids, the whole damn grid, please do share the picture and tag me on social media @julienposture ! I will give a big virtual hug to the illustrator who gets a full line first.
Many thanks to my colleagues who sent me some of these, it was terrifying how easily the list came to our minds ! This is of course no reflection of individual characters but a comment on systemic practices, but every single of these options are 100% based on real experiences and things illustrators have been told.
So go on, download this little goodie and let’s play ! And let me know in the comments the heartbreaks you’ve experienced and that I haven’t included here. Who knows we might me able to do a second edition !
If you enjoy receiving this newsletter in your inbox, please consider going to the paid version. The paid version is exactly the same as the free one. This is because I believe paying for someone’s creative work shouldn’t be about paywalling readers but about “payspringboarding” writers. If you agree and can afford it, you can switch to the paying version here.
