Call for participation - The semiotics and politics of "Corporate Memphis"
👀 Looking for participants for a study on the demonized illustration style
Hello all!
To the creative industry audience, I’ve said what I had to say about Flat Art and its various derogative names and association a long time ago. In this respect, I don’t think there’s much more to say. Yet, I think what happened with “Corporate Memphis” and its backlash is tremendously informative for the academic study of branding and commercial art, particularly from a social sciences perspective, and the expertise of creatives in this project is crucial.
As part of my PhD, I’m now working on a more systematic review of the phenomenon to fully understand how a particular assemblage of aesthetic features became so strongly associated with the political and ethical values of Tech Companies.
I’m looking to interview illustrators who work in a style that has been linked to Corporate Memphis, art directors/designers who have participated in branding projects mobilizing this aesthetic, and commenters who have seen the trend growing.
If you recognize yourself in any of this role, I would love to hear from you! Interviews would run between 30 minutes to 1 hour on Zoom and be an open discussion about your experiences and opinions.
